How We Hire a Trek Leader/ Senior Outdoor Leader

At Ramblers India, we follow a structured, multi-stage process to ensure every new team member not only meets our safety and skill standards, but also shares our commitment to participant-centered experiences.

1. Eligibility Screening

We begin by reviewing each application against clear eligibility criteria tailored to the role. Candidates must demonstrate:

  • Relevant technical certifications (e.g., mountaineering accreditation, first aid, Outdoor leadership course)

  • Minimum field experience (e.g., number of treks led or supported)

  • Alignment with our values around consent, inclusivity, and safety

Only those who meet all baseline requirements move on to the next stage.

2. Introductory Call

Shortlisted candidates are invited to a 30- to 45-minute phone interview. During this conversation, we:

  • Explore their motivation and personal connection to outdoor guiding

  • Discuss real-world scenarios (risk management, group dynamics)

  • Assess communication style and participant-focus mindset

By the end of the call, both parties have a clear sense of fit and next steps. If short listed we will invite for the field assessment.

3. Field Assessment

Successful candidates join us on-site for a day of hands-on evaluation during an actual trek or recce. We observe:

  • Technical skills like route planning, rope handling

  • Leadership under pressure

  • Participant interaction (clear briefings, empathy, group rapport)

  • Receive feedback from our team

This immersive stage gives candidates a realistic snapshot of our operations and lets us gauge performance in context.

4. Final Onboarding

Candidates who excel in the field assessment will be officially welcomed into the Ramblers India family.

They’ll:

  • Co-design trek itineraries with our experienced team

  • Co-lead treks and ensure smooth on-ground execution

  • Lead participant briefings and manage client experience during treks

  • Participate in recces for new routes and destinations

We're looking for someone who’s not just fit and field-ready, but also great with people, safety-aware, and excited to shape unforgettable outdoor experiences.
