About the Event

Nalichivaat is widely recognized as one of the most challenging treks leading to the majestic Harishchandragad, a peak that stands as a testament to the rugged beauty of the Sahyadri mountain range. The trek begins with a narrow depression that winds its way through a landscape dotted with numerous rock patches and boulders, presenting both a physical and mental challenge to trekkers as they navigate their way toward the expansive plateau. This route is particularly noted for being the longest elevation trail that climbers must conquer to reach Harishchandragad, making it a favorite among seasoned trekking enthusiasts seeking an adrenaline rush. To ensure the safety of all participants during the steep climbs, we will be strategically fixing a rope at critical points along the trail to provide additional support and security, helping trekkers to maintain their balance and confidence as they ascend. As the trail progresses, it adjoins the breathtaking Kokankada, a stunning cliff that offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. From this vantage point, our campsite will be just a short 20-minute hike away, situated near the revered Harihareshwar temple, which is not only a place of worship but also a serene location for rest and reflection after a day of rigorous trekking.

On the second day of our adventure, we will embark on a descent towards the Junnar Darwaja, leading us to the fascinating Makadnaal, where we will encounter one of the highlights of our trek: the famous vertical rock patch at Makadnaal. Here, participants will have the exhilarating opportunity to rappel down this impressive rock face, an experience that promises to be both thrilling and rewarding. After this exhilarating descent, we will continue our journey towards the quaint village of Walhivale in Maharashtra, where the trail converges back to the Nalichi Vaat, marking the conclusion of this leg of our trek. The descent offers a different perspective of the stunning natural beauty of the region, allowing trekkers to appreciate the lush greenery and unique geological formations that characterize this part of the Sahyadri range.

Harishchandragad is steeped in history, with roots tracing back to the 6th Century. The fort has witnessed the passage of time and has stories etched into its very stones, making it a significant landmark in the region. Multiple trails lead to the summit from various starting points, each offering its unique challenges and scenic views. Among the notable features of Harishchandragad are its prominent caves, including the renowned Kedareshwar cave, which is a testament to the architectural prowess of ancient artisans. The concave-shaped mighty Kokankada is another highlight, providing breathtaking views that draw trekkers and nature lovers alike. Additionally, the Harishchandreshwar temple stands as a significant spiritual site, inviting pilgrims and trekkers to pause and reflect. The highest elevation point on the fort, known as Taramati, rises to an impressive height of 1429 meters, offering a rewarding view for those who reach its summit. It is not uncommon to hear from regular trekkers of the Sahyadri range that they have visited Harishchandragad multiple times, each experience unique and filled with discoveries along the various trails that lead to this historic and picturesque destination.
